Fashion Spot: Russian Designer Ulyana Sergeenko Spring/Summer 2012 collection

Young designer Ulyana Sergeenko, formerly known for her photography and friendship with socialite Kseniya Sobchak, has caused a splash in the Russian fashion world. Despite this only being her second collection, Sergeenko has already earned her marks among the top designers in Russia. Her truly unique style brings something new to a world where everything has been seen and tried.

Ulyana Sergeenko’s Spring/Summer 2012 collection features high waist dresses and skirts with nipped-in waists that highlight the feminine silhouette like no other. While previous designers put accent on enhancing bust and butt, Ulyana brings something new to the table by showing us the beauty of a lady’s waist. Classy, with a pinch of vintage, Sergeenko’s dresses are ballroom glamorous with chic corsets and polka-dots. The colorful print manages to capture the essence of Russia’s history without being tacky, a difficult task indeed.

Sergeenko is nothing if not different, and her exceptional fashion choices seem more like her way of life rather than a day job. When Ulyana was asked in the December issue of Russia’s Glamour magazine, how she found the inspiration behind her sense of style, she said, “I never tried to find it, this is the way I’ve always been, from my childhood. My icon is my grandmother, which is why I dress like her - long skirts, heels, and a typical Russian braid.”

Ulyana molded together the cultures of the Soviet Union and France into one beautiful collection, which you will find numerous Russian celebrities wearing to concerts and award ceremonies. Sergeenko pushes beyond the status-quo, showing young ladies everywhere what true class and femininity are all about.
