What to do on Fashion’s Night Out 2012 in New York - The Top 10 events you don't want to miss

If you’ve been in New York over the past few days, you’ve probably noticed the excited and frenetic energy in the air. Six foot tall, impossibly beautiful girls run crazed from appointment to appointment, ridiculously well dressed individuals stop and pose for photographers, and clothing you've only ever seen in magazines, flood the streets. All of this can only mean one thing; fashion week is once again upon us, and with it comes Vogue's and the CFDA’s fourth installment of the original Fashion’s Night Out.

Fashion's Night Out began in 2009 as a way to encourage people to shop and support the fashion industry during tough economic times. It has since spread, with Fashion's Night Outs in over eighteen countries and with more than 4,500 events here in the United States alone. You're on the other side of the globe? Then check out Fashion's Night Out in Berlin or Madrid on September 6th. As for New York - if you find yourself out in the city on Thursday night and want to participate in the festivities, but feel like your drowning in options, here are some of my picks for the best things to do on NYC's Fashion's Night Out 2012.

Fashion's Night Out is perfect for spotting celebrities while shopping great one night only deals, all with a complimentary cocktail in hand! The ever stylish Clarins sisters will be at Sephora on East 17th, Rachel Zoe will be at Bergdorfs, Kate Upton at Michael Kors, Karlie Kloss at Juicy Couture, and Kim Kardashian, Kristi Yamaguchi, and the NYFD will all be at Lord and Taylor's. But, most importantly, America's favorite pig, the one and only Miss Piggy, will be spending the evening at FDNY and DKNY.

If you're more into checking out the latest band than shopping at cool labels, Fashion's Night Out has still got you covered. The evening features some of the hottest new bands and solo artists playing at stores across Manhattan. Chairlift will be performing at Prada Soho, Alexa Chung will deejay a set at Moschino, while Solange Knowles is spinning at DVF, Cyndi Lauper will be playing her greatest hits at Monolo Blahnik, and, of course, M.A.C. Soho will have people lining up down the street to see DJ Cosmo and Azealia Banks. Make sure to get there early!

Finally, if the whole evening with its hoards of celebs and fashion lovers isn't your cup of tea, for the first time ever the Lower East Side Business Improvement District will be hosting their very own event the night before. Lower East Side Opening Night: Art + Fashion will take place on September 5 from 6-9pm, featuring gallery openings, deals at local eateries and many special in-store events and sales.
