Sometimes the most powerful stories are the quietest ones. The Illiterate tells the touching story of an older woman who has spent her life hiding the fact that she cannot read, and the young teacher who helps her discover new possibilities through education. The film beautifully explores themes of dignity, self-worth, and lifelong learning, reminding us that it is never too late to grow. Students in Spanish, Education, Social Work, and Sociology will find this film both inspiring and thought-provoking. This film is part of our Cine Latino series made possible by Pragda. All film screenings are free in E109. The 3 p.m. screening is sensory-friendly, with dim (not dark) lighting, reduced volume, and open captions. The 6 p.m. screening offers a full cinema experience, including free popcorn.
